How to reset Microsoft Office Onenote screen clipping shortcut back to Windows+S in Windows 8 or Windows 10

As a user of onenote screen clipping about 10 times a day it was frustrating finding Windows 8 and then Windows 10 took over the old Windows+S shortcut combination to do a Windows search instead. Well I don’t want to do windows searches but I do want to screen clip. To get Onenote back to the old functionality you have to first disable Windows explorer using it and if necessary set Onenote back to using Windows+S (hex 53)

  • Copy the below into a notepad and save it to your desktop as a ResetOneNote.reg

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] “DisabledHotkeys”=”S”
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\OneNote\Options\Other] “ScreenClippingShortcutKey”=dword:00000053

  • Then Right click and merge the registry entry, pressing OK and Yes to any prompts.
  • Log off and then back on and test Windows + S and it should be back to normal!
